Send us your suspension

Tell us what you're sending and where it ships from, pay the deposit, and your prepaid USPS label lands in your inbox.

Good to know

Box it, drop it at the counter, done.

Max runs suspension service at Altar as the lead suspension technician, and he's the person you'll hear from.

01What's in the box

A fork, or anything shipped with a fork, goes in one fork box (about 39 × 7 × 6 in): a fork, a shock and a dropper all fit together. A shock or dropper shipped without a fork goes in a box sized for it (a shock box, or a dropper or seatpost box), not a fork box: a small part rattling in a long box gets damaged, and its label is bought for the smaller box.

Not sure which level? Pick the lower one. If Max finds it needs more, he sends you the price before doing anything.

02Setup and symptoms

We set it up for you before it ships back. Skip anything you don't know.

Your setup
Riding weight, with gear (lb) (optional)

Sets your air pressure and rebound. A close number is fine.

Leave it blank and Max sets a neutral baseline and asks you when the box lands.

Regular bike or e-bike? (optional)

E-bikes get a firmer setup.

Where you mostly ride (optional)
How you ride it (optional)
How you like it to feel (optional)

Slow, sticky or won't-come-up posts are often the seat collar or the cable on the bike — back the collar off a quarter turn and check the housing for kinks before you ship. A couple of millimeters of wobble is normal.

Dropper — last serviced or bought new (optional)
When was it last serviced (or bought new)? (optional)

Tells Max which parts to have ready.

Where or when does it happen? (optional)
Current settings, if you know them (optional)

Count clicks out from fully closed. Leave it blank and Max sets it up from your answers.

03While it's apart

Anything you'd like Max to look at while it's apart? Nothing here goes on your order — he inspects, sends you photos and a price for each item, and you say yes or no.

Anything you'd like Max to look at? Nothing here goes on your order — he inspects, sends you photos and a price for each item, and you say yes or no. Some upgrades need the damper out, which a lower-leg or air-can service doesn't include — Max tells you the price difference before anything happens.

Thinking of replacing the fork, shock or post rather than servicing it? Call us first — 828-209-8798 — you won't pay to service something you're about to swap.

What are you hoping to change? (optional)
We won't do anything beyond what you booked without asking. After inspection Max sends you photos and a price for each item, and you say yes or no to each.

Custom tune

Max re-tunes the damping and spring for your weight and riding. Labor $95; shims are cheap, but some dampers need a $75–250 piston kit — he asks you before he starts.

The tune is built from your answers in 02 — if you skipped them, Max asks you first.
